What is emotional wellbeing?

The term emotional well-being (EWB) encompasses an individual’s social, emotional, mental, spiritual, and cultural well-being.  The genesis of emotional wellbeing varies based on people’s background of geographical location, culture, religion, ethnicity, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, and so on. For example, the Indigenous worldviews often recognize the term within the holistic view of health and well-being, and especially in connection to the land, sea, culture, spirituality, family, and community.  In the Eurocentric view of health, emotional well-being is often medicalized and focused on illness rather than protective factors that make up and influence well-being
